Our Bahamian Meal

The first β€œB” country on our international table adventure  is also the first country we’ve actually visited – Bahamas! We spent a week on the Grand Bahama Island in 2011. It was gorgeous every day! We also had a brief stop at Great Stirrup Cay when on a Star Trek cruise in 2019.

We started off by mixing up some Bahama Mamas – we love rum drinks, makes us think “vacation”! As an appetizer we made conch fritters but since Rob is allergic to shellfish we made some plain fritters for him. When we were in the Bahamas there were huge piles of conch shells in dumps – so much that they had issues getting rid of them all. We were trying to figure out something to do with conch shells to make money so we could make a living there, but unfortunately the i-Conch phone didn’t catch on.

For the main course, we made Bahamian boiled fish with grouper, Macaroni pie (a cheesy mac & cheese bake) and coconut Bimini bread (unfortunately it was nowhere near as good as the bread we got from West End Bakery during our trip there with the coconut and papaya sauces).

About The Bahamas

The Bahamas consist of 700 islands and 2,400 cays in total (of which 30 are inhabited). We’ve been to the Grand Bahama Island and Great Stirrup Cay. We would love to visit more such as Harbour Island that has pastel-colored cottages and blush-tinted sand, the Exumas with its cobalt blue water, white sand beaches and friendly swimming pigs, and the capital of Nassau to visit it’s beaches, and snorkel the coral reefs.

Our Bahama Vacation

In 2011 we visited the Grand Bahama Island for a week. (Check out our full post here) What an amazing vacation! I loved it so much I cried in the cab on the way back to the airport. The resort we were staying at had a cool “cave” in the pool area where we enjoyed Pirates Punch and other delicious vacation drinks. We went for long walks on the beach and had to come up with some creative ways to avoid getting sunburned! We had some amazing food including bread with delicious coconut and papaya butter on top. YUM!

In 2019 we went on a Star Trek cruise! It was so much fun to meet Star Trek cast and see them perform. We had fun on dress up night and I got a picture with an awesome Andorian (a Federation species in Star Trek). We also renewed our wedding vows so they are now recognized thought the galaxy! As part of the cruise we stopped at The Great Stirrup Cay. It was beautiful.
