Our Barbados Meal

Our Barbados meal consisted of Sweet Potato Fish Cakes, Bajan Peas Nโ€™ Rice, Spiked Coconut Water and Bajan Christmas Puddinโ€™ (Pound Cake with Cherries). The fish cakes were tasty when topped with the ketchup, hot sauce and honey sauce. The authentic version in Barbados would most likely be made using flying fish. The Spiked Coconut water was just coconut water with coconut rum and lime. Very refreshing. The Christmas Puddin had 4 sticks of butter in it. So very rich and delicious with a few cherries throughout to add flavor. Another cake that was delicious for breakfast the next day. ๐Ÿ™‚

About Barbados

Barbados is a small island – you can drive the perimeter in an hour. It is considered to be the birthplace of rum and has the oldest continuously running rum distillery site, currently owned by Mount Gay. It has no volcanos and because of its location, it is not hit by most hurricanes. People who live in Barbados are called Bajan and they speak Bajan, which is a local dialect of English. Barbados has the highest percentage of centurions, includingย James Sisnett (1900-2013), who remains the oldest Barbadian person ever, having died at the age of 113. It is known as โ€œthe land of flying fishโ€ which is represented on their dollar coin. Its capital and largest city of Bridgetown is home to about 40% of the population of 282,000.

Our Dream Barbados Vacation

Barbados looks beautiful and we hope to visit someday soon. There is a Sandals resort in Barbados that looks over the top! Even if we stayed at such a beautiful resort, we would want to leave the resort to see the island and visit some of the beautiful beaches such as Crane Beach which looks amazing!

We would want to visit some local restaurants to try the national dish of Barbados, Cou Cou and Flying Fish. We’d visit Hunte’s Garden and taste rum at St Nicholas Abbey.
