Australia 🇦🇺

Our Australian Meal

Our Australian meal consisted of Aussie Twisted Vegemite Breadsticks, Aussie Burgers, Hasselback Potatoes, and Pavlova. While making dinner we had a drink made with Bundaberg Guava and rum -very good! With dinner, we had an Australian Coonawarra red wine. We did not make the Kangaroo Bites that were part of Sasha’s meal plan. We just couldn’t do it. However, if we visit Australia, we will probably try them.

The Vegemite breadsticks were tasty but next time we would use more vegemite. Vegemite is very salty, but we could not really taste it with how thinly it was spread on the breadsticks. The Aussie burgers were good. They had bacon, cheddar cheese, red onion, tomato, pickled beet, lettuce, pineapple rings, and sunny-side-up fried eggs on top. They were Huge! We have made hasselback potatoes several times before. The Pavlova was very sweet! It was basically just egg whites and sugar. Crunchy on the outside and like a marshmallow on the inside. It was good with strawberries on top.

About Australia

Australia was first claimed by the Dutch in the 1600s as New Holland and then by Great Brittan in 1770s as New South Wales. It became Australia in 1901. Most of Australia was colonized by the British including more than 165,000 convicts, 25,000 of which were women. Australia includes a mainland and several small islands including Tasmania. It is the sixth largest country in the world and is split into six states. It is the flattest and driest continent with the least amount of arable soil. 35% of Australia is desert, mainly in the center, which is why a majority of the population lives along the coast.

Australia has rainforests in the north-east, savannas in the north, and mountains in the south-east. “The Outback” is an area in the middle of Australia with red and orange deserts such as the Great Victoria and Great Sandy Desert. The island of Tasmania looks beautiful and is home to the Tasmanian devil. The Tasmanian Devil has a stocky and muscular build, black fur, a pungent odor, an extremely loud and disturbing screech, and is ferocious when feeding. Not cute like the one on Bugs Bunny! Lake Hillier is a pink lake in Australia and its color is said to baffle scientists.

Our Dream Australian Vacation

We would love to visit some of Australia’s beautiful beaches such as Whitehaven Beach, Hyams Beach, and Wineglass Bay in Tasmania. While in Tasmania we would see the Southern Lights (Aurora Australis). We would swim in waterholes in Litchfield National park. We’d visit wineries in Barossa Valley and perhaps stay at the Lake House at the Barossa Chateau. Finally, we would go to an opera at the Sydney Opera House and check out some of the restaurants and bars in Sydney.
